Exhibition: Graphic Dialogues: Berlin × Korea

6–26 May 2026 | Vernissage: 6 May 2026

Graphic Dialogues: Berlin × Korea presents stories of memory, identity, migration, and cultural translation through the works of graphic novel artists from Korea and Germany. The exhibition is organised as part of the Seoul Satellite Programme of Comic Invasion Berlin 2026, highlighting comics as a medium of cultural exchange that can connect stories, memories, and artistic communities across borders.

Five artists from Germany and Korea approach the shared theme of memory and documentation from different perspectives, subjects, and backgrounds. Alongside selected key works, the exhibition also presents sketches and materials from the creative process, offering insight into the artists' ways of working and revealing potential connections between Korean and German comics and graphic novels. Books by the participating artists will also be available to read at the Goethe-Institut Library throughout the exhibition period.

Artists: Lisa Wool-Rim Sjöblom – Palimpsest | Sheree Domingo – Madam Choi und die Monster, Ferngespräche | Alexandra Rügler – Im Anderswo | Kun-Woong Park – Paradise | Dominik Heilig – Fire on the Land

Workshop: About Borders: (How do you) Draw a Line(?)

9–10 May 2026, 15:00–19:00 | Host: Jjungjji (쩡찌)

We all live with invisible boundaries. Moments when language fails, when cultural differences suddenly become clear, or when we find ourselves in the middle of a city yet feel that we do not quite belong—such experiences appear before us in many different forms of boundaries.

This workshop is led by the Korean cartoonist and illustrator Jjungjji, whose work sensitively explores the emotions, relationships, and subtle moments of boundaries through drawings and storytelling. Guided by the artist, participants will reflect on the linguistic, cultural, social, or personal boundaries they experience in their own lives and express them freely through drawing, writing, collage, and other creative approaches. Participants will create a small 16-page folded zine. Target group: Youth & Adults of all genders, backgrounds and nationalities.

Artist Alley: Manhwa Invasion Seoul!

9–10 May 2026, 16:00–21:00 (Sunday closing one hour earlier)
Live Broadcast: 18:00 Seoul / 11:00 Berlin

As the main Comic Invasion festival begins in Berlin, the Goethe-Institut Korea in Seoul hosts Manhwa Invasion! Artist Alley, where artists present and sell their works at individual booths and meet visitors in an informal setting. The event symbolically connects Berlin and Seoul—two cities located around 8,500 kilometres apart—through comics and artistic exchange. Throughout the weekend, occasional live broadcasts link both locations in real time.
