“Mirror, mirror, on the page”: Chronicling Inner and ‘Other’ worlds in comics

Workshop room in the basement
Description
Being human far exceeds the conventional panel-to-panel of what most of us know as everyday existence. Mental and emotional states, as well as states of ‘otherness’, often present us with emotional battlefields which can be important fodder for as-yet-untold stories.
Participants will receive an introduction to some of the basic building blocks behind comics and storytelling and then engage with their own inner narratives and/or narratives of ‘otherness’ through storyboarding their own mini-comic.
In order to coax the trickier, less discussed-aspects of being human onto paper, we will also discuss metaphor, multi-media, comics without text, and less mainstream ways of reflecting inner worlds within the comic medium.
stef lenk is a Canadian/German comic artist and writer who has been living and working in Berlin since 2010.
The workshop will be held in English and German.
The basement can be reached via the elevator. To get to the workshop room, a few steps need to be climbed. We can assist with this if necessary.
