Description

What does it mean to come from somewhere? Does your origin really determine who you are? And if your home changes without you—can you ever really return home?

In their comic “Im Anderswo”, illustrator Alexandra Rügler and author Cody Christensen tell stories about rootlessness, loss and impermanence, belonging and home.

The project works with the comic-journalistic approaches of the “graphic gonzo” and the “graphic essay”: real-life experiences are captured in a literary framework. The power of storytelling itself is emphasised—as well as how it shapes our memories, morals and the lens through which we see our lives.

The plot is set in the isolated prairie of the US Midwest, in South Korea, and in Berlin, among other places. “Im Anderswo“ explores migration, diaspora, identity and home as some of the most important issues of our time.

The reading will be held in English.
